Whitehall was named for a large ranch house which was used as a stop for stagecoaches running the Helena-Virginia City route. The Jefferson Valley Museum features mining, railroad and agricultural displays. A set of twelve Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Murals in Whitehall have been recognized for their accuracy, quality and historic value. Because of its mild, relatively dry winters, Whitehall is known as the “Banana Belt of Montana”.
