Small town department stores are rapidly becoming a part of America’s past. It is rare to find them, and even rarer to find ones that are still in the family of the original founder. John Ford came to Hamilton in 1929 to manage the J.C. Penney store. In 1947 he parted company and started Ford’s Federated Department Store. After 57 years, the store is thriving and still run by John’s descendents. John’s son Tom, at age 82, still manages the store with his children Alan and Julie. In spite of competition from larger chain and big box stores, Ford’s has maintained a loyal customer base by offering what their customers want and giving them great, small town service. Visit them for a taste of Americana, and for a great shopping experience.
